Resort drop-off is usually a named gate and a security booth. Send the resort name as it appears on your confirmation — “RIU,” “Secrets,” “Royalton,” and so on. Drivers know the lanes.

Airbnbs and private villas are different. Night arrivals, steep drives, and unmarked walls are common in the hills above Montego Bay. Before you fly, send the WhatsApp pin or Google Maps link, the gate code if there is one, and a backup number for your host. That is the difference between a smooth drop and a 10-minute tour of the wrong cul-de-sac.

Private van vs shared shuttle vs walk-up taxi

A walk-up taxi can be fine for a short hop into town if you like negotiating at midnight with jet lag. It is a poor match for Negril with three suitcases and a car seat.

Hotel shuttles and shared vans split the cost and add stops. If your resort is first, you win. If you are last, you watch other people check in while the kids melt.

Private means the van is yours. No extra names. The driver can wait out a bag delay, stop for a baby bottle, and take you to an Airbnb that is not on a shuttle list. You see both rates — per person and per vehicle — before anyone asks for a deposit.
