What you actually see

It is not a light show with a soundtrack. Microscopic organisms in this lagoon spark when you stir the water. On the boat, the wake glows. In the water, your arms and the splash around you light up. The usual trip lets you slip in. If the wind is up, the boat operator may keep everyone seated. They run the water. We run the transfer. Heavy rain can dull the lagoon; if the evening looks poor we would rather say so in the thread than pretend every night is the photograph.

Who it suits from a Montego Bay hotel

Most Montego Bay resort strips reach Falmouth in under an hour. Hotels west toward Hopewell and Round Hill take longer. It is a comfortable after-dinner outing: swimsuit under your clothes, a towel, sandals you can get wet, and a family that is fine on a small boat at night. Children who swim do well. It is a poor choice for anyone who wants to be in bed at nine and up for Dunn’s River at dawn — pick one late night.

Negril is a long night both ways. Send the hotel before you build the week around it. Cruise passengers should only add the lagoon when the ship is in late.
